5 Reasons That Commitment to Your Work Matters
Commitment matters big time. One of the most important reasons to embrace commitment is that you are more likely to achieve goals and adhere to your vision. If you’re not motivated, your staff won’t be motivated. If you don’t have a motivated team, you could lose clients, lose money, and even lose respect in the marketplace.
Commitment to your clients and commitment to your employees are crucial elements to your success. When you’re committed, your employees see that and want to emulate your commitment. If you’re out fishing when you should be working, your employees will not see, or feel, a need to work: “If the boss is off playing, why should we work?” will be their attitude. This isn’t to say you can’t take a vacation.
What are some of the benefits of commitment to work?
What else does commitment bring to your workplace and your life? Here are five benefits:
When you’re 100% committed, the conversation ends. You decide once — and that decision carries you through every challenge, every obstacle, and every excuse. No debate. No hesitation. No ‘Plan B.’
99% commitment is a freaking cop-out. It sounds committed, but it’s not. It’s where your brain leaves the back door open — where excuses sneak in, doubts take root, and momentum stalls. At 99%, you’re still negotiating with yourself: 'Should I do it today? Can I put it off until tomorrow? Maybe it’s not that important right now.' And every time you hesitate, you lose power.
100% commitment is where the breakthroughs happen. It’s where you build real momentum. It’s where you train your mind to expect success instead of just hoping for it.
That 1% gap? It’s deadly. It’s the crack where fear, procrastination, and failure leak in.
Success isn’t for the ‘almost committed.’ It’s reserved for the unstoppable. So shut the door. Burn the boats. Be all in — and watch how fast you change your life.

- You will meet goals and targets (and even exceed them). At the beginning of the year and the start of every quarter, business owners look at targets they want to hit and goals they want to meet. If you and your staff aren’t committed and aren’t working as a team toward those goals, your business will suffer. Every person on the team has a part to play in the meeting of the goals. As an entrepreneur, it is up to you to stay 100% committed and stay on track to your goals and targets.
- You will be more productive. This seems like a no brainer, right? If you’re moving toward completion of goals and checking off those to-dos from your list, productivity follows. You must be committed to do the work, so you can check off all the actions required.
- Commitment to work is a “value add” proposition when you’re hiring an employee or a contractor. You want them to be committed to you, your business and its goals. As a bottom line for the employee or contractor – your success equals their continued success, right?
What else does commitment bring to your workplace and your life? Here are five benefits:
- When you commit, you connect. The connection between values, intentions, and actions all derives from a commitment to the task at hand. You want to commit to your business, to its success, and to your employees, if you have any, and to clients as well.
- Your passion for what you do shines through in the commitment to which you devote to it. Are you passionate about what you do? If you are, I’ll bet you’re more committed to its success. If your passion is waning, so too will your commitment. What can you do to bring passion back and revive your commitment? Remember the “why” you got into the business. What did you hope to accomplish and how does that make you feel?
- When you commit, you are conscious of the actions necessary, and you’re more in the present. Commitment requires you to be self-aware.
- When you are committed you will be persistent. Commitment drives action and moves us through challenges. Persistent people are committed.
- Your vision is realized when commitment is present. The actions you’re taking are helping realize your vision and that’s a powerful connection.
If you want to be purposeful in your business and in your actions as seen by others, commitment brings that forth. Being committed is a choice you’re making and a purpose you’re fulfilling.
Who are you at work? Who are you in your life? The items to which you commit are the culmination of who you are and what you believe in.
Do you find yourself seeking inspiration? Do you find yourself flitting from one task or project to another and not feeling a connection with any of them? Commitment, or lack of, could be the reason you’re not committed to doing the work required to achieve your goals. Consider what inspires you and commit your energies to it.
Commitment comes in many forms. Your commitment to your marriage or to your relationships with friends or family or your significant other can color those relationships. Are you committed only in the good times? Do your commitments carry you through the difficult times?
This is the same as a commitment at work. As an entrepreneur, are you committed to your work when it’s going well and when it’s struggling? Do you want to throw in the towel and find yourself a job when the going gets tough? Are you committed enough to your business, its visions, its goals, and your dream of being an entrepreneur to push through challenges and remain committed to the vision you’d once held?
When you’re 100% committed, the conversation ends. You decide once — and that decision carries you through every challenge, every obstacle, and every excuse. No debate. No hesitation. No ‘Plan B.’
99% commitment is a freaking cop-out. It sounds committed, but it’s not. It’s where your brain leaves the back door open — where excuses sneak in, doubts take root, and momentum stalls. That 1% gap? It’s deadly. It’s the crack where fear, procrastination, and failure leak in.
